It’s nice to be a Querk®!

It’s nice to be a Querk®
Five Querk-Brothers go out into the world, on a quest to find themselves: Alvar, Bogdan, Cedrik, Drago and Erasmus.
Aspiring to adopt the traits of others, who they assume to be better, the five dress up and slip into different rolls. There is for instance Drago, who believes he would be able to lead a better life, if only he could be as colorful as a parrot and even be able to fly…
In the end though the Querk-Brothers realize, that each one of them is unique and perfect in their own way.
After having traveled through many Kindergartens of the world, the Querk has come back home and now comes to you directly from their nest! “Hatched”, i.e. sewn by his “Mommy” personally, from high-quality German materials and in the spirit of sustainability!
What is a Querk®?
The Querk® is also an educational toy. The interchangeable costumes and costume pieces turn him into a sort of „soft puzzle“ which stimulates the knowledge of shapes and colors. The child is encouraged to distinguish between the individual parts (ears, nose, paws and tail) which show the typical shape- and color characteristics of a certain animal, and put them together correctly.
The fine-motor-skills can also be trained by playing with the Querk® because the so-called “Montessori-Concept” is implemented in every costume. Which means, the fastenings on the individual costume pieces are designed to challenge as many of those tiny, delicate movements of a child’s hand as possible.
With the Querk® and his costumes it is possible to spark a child’s creativity. They represent a „textile-animal-building-kit“. By dividing them into parts, they can be mixed and matched according to imagination and taste and new animal creations can be invented. The costumes are also suitable for dressing other stuffed toys and dolls.
Through role-play the happenings of everyday life and the actions of grown-ups are imitated. Here too the Querk® can play a part.
With the corresponding story, the child is motivated to re-enact its ‘friends’ travels and even elaborate them according to the mood.
Suitable for whom?
The costumes being educational tools, are not suitable for children under 3 years of age due to various small pieces (which can be swallowed) and the missing manual skills of small children!
For me sustainability also means that I use as many of already existing materials as possible instead of throwing them away, just so something new can be produced with a lot of effort! Which is why the materials I use for the costumes may come from Asia but are slumbering in storage rooms of toy factories across Germany and would otherwise someday become victims of waste disposal.
That is why not every Querk® or rather the costumes, looks the same. They vary depending on what materials I can get.
Every stuffed toy is numbered and limited, because I can only produce a certain amount per year. So every Querk® from my workshop is absolutely one-of-a-kind!
